Rekeying replaces the internal pins of a lock so old keys no longer work, without needing to swap out the visible hardware. It's usually the more economical route when the lock itself is in good shape and the only concern is who holds a working key.
The most common triggers are a move-in, a lost key, a tenant turnover, or simply wanting one key to work across multiple doors that currently use different keys. Bringing any existing working keys to the visit speeds up the process.
Not every lock is a good candidate for rekeying — heavily worn or corroded cylinders sometimes need full replacement instead. That assessment happens on site before any work begins.
